Very cool developments for the proposed X-Men sequel making news today. If studio rumors are to be believed Matthew Vaughn’s next installment for his X-Men prequels will rely heavily on the 2-issue comic run in the early 1980′s. Sure, the only reason fans are jumping to this conclusion is because FOX has nabbed the domain “Days of Future Past” to use potentially as a future website but still…it’s something.
If you’re not familiar with the story, let me refer you to wikipedia:
The storyline alternates between present day, in which the X-Men fight Mystique’s Brotherhood of Evil Mutants, and a future timeline caused by the X-Men’s failure to prevent the Brotherhood from assassinating Senator Robert Kelly. In this future universe, Sentinels rule the United States, and mutants live in internment camps. The present-day X-Men are forewarned of the possible future by a future version of their teammate Kitty Pryde, whose mind traveled back in time and possessed her younger self to warn the X-Men. She succeeds in her mission and returns to the future, but despite her success, the future timeline still exists as an alternative timeline rather than as the actual future.
An extremely ambitious story to tell on the big screen but if Vaughn can pull it off, which he’ll definitely need to improve on First Class if he hopes to do so, this may finally be the epic X-Men story fans have been waiting for since Bryan Singer introduced the characters to Hollywood over a decade ago.
