Vince Vaughn Gives The Brady Bunch a Modern Makeover
August 9th, 2012 | Posted by in Scoops | TelevisionIn the last few years, network sitcoms have done a good job of reflecting the changing family dynamic in America. Shows like Modern Family and Raising Hope portray just about every parent-child scenario you can think of – gay parents, heterosexual parents, May-December parents, single teenage parents. So why shouldn’t we bring back the original family that first introduced us to the concept of blended family? The Bradys, of course.
Vince Vaughn is reportedly developing a modern reboot of The Brady Bunch, a sitcom from the 70’s about…well, you know. A lovely lady, her three very lovely girls, a man named Brady with three boys of his own. And their maid. And the maid’s meat-salesman boyfriend Sam. This new version will air on CBS and follow Bobby Brady, the youngest son of the family now grown up, divorced and remarried to a woman who, shockingly, also has kids from another marriage. The new Brady Bunch will also include Bobby-N’Wife’s child together, and factor in their ex-spouses as well.
Is it just me or do Vince Vaughn and the Brady Bunch seem like an unlikely combination? The idea of it just seems out of place. Maybe it is because the Bradys themselves seem out of place in our culture today. Non-traditional families are commonplace now, which they were not back in the Brady Bunch’s original hay day. That is what made the show unique and a landmark in sitcom history. However, Vince Vaughn is a funny guy and by all accounts talented. So it could be great if it ends up moving forward.
