The future of NBC’s THE OFFICE is not looking good.
In two months NBC execs will have to stand before the press and lay out their plans for the 2012-13 television season. As of right now, only a handful of current OFFICE cast members are under contract. Negotiations with the other half, including John Krasinski, Jenna Fischer, Ed Helms and B.J. Novak, have stalled.
That’s in addition to the news that longtime showrunner Paul Lieberstein, aka TOBY, will transition his responsibilities away from THE OFFICE to focus on the Rainn Wilson/Dwight spin-off tentatively titled THE FARM.
James Spader has already said he will not return as Robert California and Mindy Kaling, who I personally think is way overrated, is currently working on developing a pilot for FOX that she will write and star in.
So, let’s just say all these deals go south. Who’s left to star in THE OFFICE? Kevin and Oscar?
Yes, this may be the end of THE OFFICE which is a shame because this season, the show’s first sans-Steve Carell, is its best in years.
