SCOOP: Joseph Gordon Levitt Developing Remake of Little Shop of Horrors

Joseph Gordon Levitt is reportedly developing a remake of Little Shop of Horrors – essentially making this a reboot of the1986 movie adaptation of the 1982 off-Broadway musical version of the 1960 original movie. Whoa. Ordinarily, I would hate such a derivative concept. But….I love it.
I don’t claim to have seen either the off-Broadway musical or the original movie (which was directed by Roger Corman – and if you are a Mystery Science Theater 3000 fan like I am, you know Corman is the king of low-budg B-movies.) HOWEVER – I do love me some Rick Moranis (who didn’t in the 80’s and 90’s?) and I loved the ’86 version of Little Shop of Horrors. I also love Joseph Gordon Levitt (who doesn’t in the ‘00’s and ‘10’s?).
More things to love: Marc Platt, the producer of Broadway’s Wicked and such films as Wanted and Legally Blonde, is producing the remake. Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa, the playwright behind Broadway’s Spider-Man: Turn off the Dark, is set to write the script. No director is currently on board yet.
This is still in development, with JGL vying for the lead role of Seymour the nerdy florist. People are already clamoring for his pal and 500 Days of Summer co-star Zooey Deschanel to play Audrey. What I really want to know is, who will voice the man-eating Venus fly trap, Audrey II? If I was a betting woman (and I am!) I would say Eddie Murphy. But just for fun, try imagining James Earl Jones crooning “Feeeeeeed meeeee, Seymour.” Hilarious, right?
This will be stuck in my head for the rest of the day. Join me, won’t you?
