You’re either a fan of Sacha Baron Cohen or you’re not. I’m less of a fan than I probably should be but I find his routine a little jaded. THE DICTATOR does little to defy that thought. It looks alright, which is the most praise I can give it at this time. Apparently the film will have a lot more substance that we see in the trailer below, having Cohen play a goat herder in addition to the dictator, and Anna Faris, who is supposed to be a star of the film, didn’t even make an appearance.
The trailer did however successfully set up Cohen’s character with snippets of world leaders talking about actual dictators.
I’m mixed on THE DICTATOR, although I feel this is more of a Netflix Instant than a straight up rental.
Synopsis: Sacha Baron Cohen re-teams with director Larry Charles on their newest slice of satire with this Paramount Pictures release concerning a foreign dictator and a goat herder (both played by Cohen) as they make their way across America. Anna Faris, Ben Kingsley, and Jason Mantzoukas head up the supporting cast.
The movie will be released to theaters on May 11, 2012.
