Movie: The Chernobyl Diares

The Chernobyl Diaries mixes in a lot of horror movie elements that we love – a scary foreign country, homicidal mutants, large scale disasters of epic proportions. This movie is like Hostel meets The Hills Have Eyes in pretty much all ways.
It introduces us to the concept of extreme tourism, with six 20-somethings not content to backpack through Moscow and instead insist on visiting scenic Pripyat – the northern Ukraine ghost town which housed the workers of the Chernobyl nuclear reactor before the giant catastrophe that killed thousands. What could possibly go wrong?
As you might have guessed, everything goes wrong. Their car won’t start when they try to leave and radio communication is on the fritz so they can’t call for help. As night closes in, they discover they aren’t alone and are in fact being hunted by radiation-saturated mutants bent on murder.
It all seems very typical. So many aspects of this movie seem so obvious that I am truly surprised it is only coming out now. If you like trashy horror movies, it is probably right up your alley.
Official Synopsis:
Chernobyl Diaries is an original story from Oren Peli, who first terrified audiences with his groundbreaking thriller, Paranormal Activity. The film follows a group of six young tourists who, looking to go off the beaten path, hire an “extreme tour” guide. Ignoring warnings, he takes them into the city of Pripyat, the former home to the workers of the Chernobyl nuclear reactor, but a deserted town since the disaster more than 25 years ago. After a brief exploration of the abandoned city, however, the group soon finds themselves stranded, only to discover that they are not alone…
The Chernobyl Diaries comes out May 25th.
