Nicki Minaj, Keith Urban Officially Join American Idol

Well, it’s now official.
After weeks of open speculation and behind closed doors negotiating, the judges table for season 12 of American Idol is finally set.
Joining Mariah Carey will be multiple personality rapper/pop-star Nicki Minaj and country singer Keith Urban. Randy Jackson, once rumored to be leaving the show, remains the only original judge to remain on the program.
But there is of course, one looming question. Will this judging panel be able to reinvigorate the fading series?
While FOX’s other singing competition, The X-Factor, has failed to reach the success Idol once held, it’s impossible not to notice Idol‘s problems were magnified once Cowell left to bring X-Factor to the states. J-Lo and Stephen Tyler stumbled out of the blocks and everyone knew they were short term solutions to several larger, long-term problems.
At this point, one could argue the judges are more important than the actual contestants because no one is watching Idol to see the next American pop star born. Those days are long gone. No one believes the show is capable of finding and creating a bona fide superstar. So that means the only reason millions of Americans are tuning in each week is to see the drama unfold between the judges.
So how do you think the new team of judges will do? Are the new judges enough to make you watch Idol again?
