Lionsgate Announces Release Dates for 3rd and 4th Hunger Games Movies

Yep, there will be two.
As large movie studios are wont to do, Lionsgate has announced that it will be splitting the final installment of the Hunger Games trilogy, Mockingjay, into two movies. This is probably a shrewd move on Lionsgate’s part, as anything Hunger Games should certainly break the box office.
Catching Fire, the second book/movie is scheduled to be released in November of 2013, which feels like an eternity to Hunger Games fans such as myself. Mockingjay Part 1 is slated for November 2014, with Part 2 due out November 2015.
The trend of splitting the final book in a series into two movies is a popular movie, with Warner Brothers breaking the last Harry Potter book into two parts. Summit followed suit with Breaking Dawn, the last book in the Twilight series. Sometimes the source material demands it; sometimes it is purely a financial move. It is doubtful that Hunger Games fans will care either way as long as it means that the finer details of the novels are not glossed over in an attempt to cram it into two hours.
