KARMIN: Obnoxious or Awesome

March 28th, 2012 | Posted by Ethan James in In The Know | Music | Top Posts

There is something deeply troubling about the pop music act KARMIN.

They’re a little over the top, and a little gimmicky and they clearly love themselves (and each other, but more on that in a moment), but they’re also catchy as hell and the lead singer/rapper Amy is kinda hot.

Don’t get me wrong, the best way to describe KARMIN is fun. They’re music is not for those who consider themselves music snobs. This is not Bon Iver. It’s the type of music you hear on the radio and turn it up, you start singing along and you hope no one can see or hear you because it would be the most embarrassing thing has ever happened to you.

Oh yeah, and beyond the pop-goodness of KARMIN, Amy will break it down for you with a rap, which has become, besides her hair, her trademark move.

If you need another reason why someone could potentially hate on KARMIN (which you shouldn’t) is the behind the scenes romance that is probably responsible for all the cheesiness in their act. The duo of Nick Noonan and Amy Heidemann actually started dating back in 2005 and the couple has been inseparable since. They’re actually engaged and were supposed to get married this past September but since KARMIN has taken off, the wedding has been pushed back a bit.

But don’t worry. They say they’re a couple first, a band second.

So whether you love KARMIN, hate KARMIN, or accept them as your guilty pleasure (as this writer does), KARMIN has already successfully infiltrated pop-culture, so they won’t be going away anytime soon.

Heidemann and Noonan’s debut studio album will be released on April 24, 2012 but in the meantime, check out this selection of KARMIN music:

“BrokenHearted”

“BrokenHearted SNL”

“I Told You So”
