Jack White is amazing. I don’t know if anyone out there has ever disputed that fact but I said it once before, but it bears repeating. Jack White is amazing. And Freedom at 21 is amazing.
What is awesome about Jack White is how he can make songs that all are stylistically so different yet manage to still be so him. Take Freedom at 21. I don’t know what the actual term is for the singing style he is using – rap? Scat? Some combination of the two? Whatever it is called, it works well against the slow, methodical guitar riffs. Then, in the middle of the song there’s a NASTY guitar solo for about a minute for no reason but it will pretty much melt your face. And then it goes back to the hook and leaves you with a feeling of “I have to listen to this again.”
And the video is pretty cool. Typical Jack White fare. It doesn’t even matter that he kind of looks like Johnny Depp’s Mad Hatter in Alice in Wonderland. Musical talent like that just makes a man sexy.
