The good people over at Bad Robot (J.J. Abrams’ production company) have just sold a project called God Particle to Paramount Pictures and while the details are scant, here’s the logline from the film, which is more than enough to get the casual sci-fi fan interested:
After a physics experiment with a large hadron accelerator causes the Earth to seemingly vanish completely, the terrified crew of an orbiting American space station is left floating in the middle of now-even-more-empty space. When a European spacecraft appears on their radar, the Americans must determine whether it’s their salvation, or a harbinger of doom.
Thinking big budget sci-fi adventure like Abrams’ Star Trek? Think again. The plan is to shoot this Cloverfield style, for a budget under $5 Million. The plan is clearly to spend the least amount of money on the project and hope Abrams’ name carries enough weight to get fans into the theater.
