There is no debate that Phillip Seymour Hoffman is a wonderful actor. So when rumors started circulating that he was considering a pivotal role in Catching Fire, the second installment of the Hunger Games, people were excited. I myself had put him on my short list of actors I thought should play head game maker Plutarch Heavensbee. So it is with great joy and only a minimal amount of “totally called that” that I tell you that PHS has officially signed on.

Plutarch Heavensbee is definitely a vital character in the second and third books in the Hunger Games trilogy so this is a big commitment on PSH’s part. But how can it miss? The first movie was a box office monster for weeks, with fans of the book foaming at the mouth waiting for the next one to come out. For now, the casting of new characters for Catching Fire is enough to whet our appetites, especially when they are making dynamo choices like Hoffman.

Still waiting to hear ANYTHING about who is even being considered for the role of Finnick Odair, the sexy, constantly nearly-naked hunk of man who will factor heavily into the second and third (and fourth) movies. Fingers crossed for Jason Stackhouse himself, Ryan Kwanten.
