Why Take the Trip? 

Is This It was The Strokes’ debut album, and the band made its mark with their simple, not overly produced sound.

Lead singer Julian Casablancas said he wanted the album to sound  like “a band from the past that took a time trip into the future to make their record.”

The band also left the question mark off of the album’s title because they didn’t think it looked right.

Is This It reached Number 2 in the UK and #33 on the Billboard 200.

The U.S. cover art featured a microscopic close-up of particle collisions, which was a change from the original cover art.

In addition, the U.S. release featured the song “When it Started” as Track #9 instead of “New  York City Cops.”

This was a decision made in consideration of the September 11th terrorist attacks.
