Why Take the Trip?
In 1994, a band from the UK called Oasis hit the airwaves giving a Grunge-filled music industry the middle finger.
Oasis was loud, overconfident, and had no problem pushing their catchy Beatles-inspired melodies across the airwaves.
On the album’s opening track, “Rock ‘n’ Roll Star,” lead singer Liam Gallagher belted:
In my mind my dreams are real
Now you’re concerned about the way I feel
Tonight, I’m a rock ‘n’ roll star
This summed up Oasis: In their minds, they were rock and roll stars, and so they were.
Know Before You Go:
Definitely Maybe was Oasis’ debut album, and it went straight to Number 1 on the UK charts, paving the way for band’s success in America.
Oasis formed in 1991 with half of the infamous Gallagher brothers in the lineup. Liam Gallagher, Paul Arthurs, Paul McGuigan and Tony McCarroll made up the original group, but Liam’s brother Noel would soon join the band.
Noel only had only one condition—that if he joined, he wanted creative control.
This would ultimately lead Oasis to the heights of their success, but would also create the friction between the Gallagher brothers that would lead to the band’s eventual breakup.
