What do you think about this Superman re-boot?

We’re huge fans of Jay at The Hub Now, but this makes us love the guy even more.

Warner Bros. is conducting the definitive ‘under the radar’ marketing scheme, first with a super lame teaser trailer that made the most iconic superhero franchise look like a romance novel and now with a ‘leaked’ poster to Facebook that puts, literately, a man with OUT OF THIS WORLD strength in a pair of handcuffs.

However, something tells me, this image of Henry Cavill, aka Superman, is part of him showing us earthlings he is not a threat, because remember, Man of Steel takes us back to Superman’s big “reveal” to the world so of course, we would freakout, detain him and probably conduct a series of experiments on him. Clearly he could pulverize the entire U.S. military but if peace is his objective it makes sense for him to go along with this whole detainment thing.

Man of Steel opens up next year, June 14th.

Jimmy Fallon continues to be the most entertaining performer in late night, this time bringing us a (modern day) timeless Christmas classic with the help of its original singer, Mariah Carey.

Stripping the song ‘All I Want for Christmas Is You” down to just toy instruments, Carey joined Fallon and The Roots on a recent episode of Late Night and things pretty much took off from there.

Bottom line, a great way to get into the holiday spirit.

And for a brief moment you may just forget how much of a mega-diva Mariah Carey really is.

This is easily the 3rd clip (embedded below) featuring Megan Fox standing around in a bra from Judd Apatow’s This is 40, the upcoming quasi-sequel to 2007′s Knocked Up.

We’re not complaining, but don’t take that as an endorsement for the film.

If this is their “go-to” clip, I’m guessing the other 133 minutes suck.

The film is about two characters from Knocked Up, played by Paul Rudd and Apatow’s real-life wife and mother of his two children Leslie Mann, who are struggling with accepting their life’s choices as they enter into their 40′s.

It’s kinda that ‘oh shit, where did my life go’ moment captured in a ‘this is real life’ movie that won’t make you laugh. So not a large detraction from Apatow’s recent string of failures.

When did being funny become not being funny?

This is 40 hits theaters on December 21st.

The moment we’ve been waiting for in REVOLUTION has finally happened in this fall finale. Miles and Monroe finally reunite in a giant display of awesomeness and complete stupidity.

Last week, we knew our heroes finally arrived in Philadelphia. This week, it’s time for them to make their move. Their goal? Find Danny, and rescue him. That’s it. There’s no other priority.

To do this, the group holes up in a militia member’s house (apparently someone friendly to Miles), and Miles goes off to do some recon. At the HQ, Neville notes that he received a coded message from last week’s dead guy that he was bringing Miles in. Since that guy is dead, Neville rightfully assumes that he made it to town and is there right now. Mr. Smart Guy that he is immediately figures he’s somewhere close to those tunnels and that the militia member’s house is where Miles would likely go. This is the smartest thing Neville has ever done. The dumbest thing? Not killing Miles the 80 opportunities he’s had to do so in the past.

So, Neville gets to the not-so-safe house and captures Charlie, Nora and Aaron. He throws Charlie in a cell with her mother. Inexplicably, Neville leaves the other two alive. Naturally, Miles recognizes what’s happened and hatches a brilliant plan. He goes to Neville’s house and holds Julia hostage (at sword-point) unless he releases our heroes. Neville brings back Nora and The Googlenator. No Charlie, but Neville does give up her location before he and Julia get locked in a closet.

At the power plant where the kids are held, Charlie and her mother are reunited with Danny. Monroe tells Rachel that the doctor she killed last week was building a pendant amplifier as a backup. Rachel has to finish it or one of the kids eats a gun. She reluctantly agrees and gets to work with Sgt. Strausser breathing over her.

Fast forward a little bit, and the gang infiltrates the power plant. Rachel finishes the device, and she manages to kill Sgt. Strausser in the process. The kids are rescued, and this leads to one of the most anticipated epic battles in the show. Miles finally faces Monroe, and the general offers Miles a place at his side again. So, while Miles has a gun trained on an unarmed Monroe, he hesitates about shooting him. Miles says he’s sorry for not shooting Monroe when he had the chance before. They struggle, and the gun completely discharges. It’s gonna be a sword fight, and it leads directly to the cliffhanger.  Check it out…

So, that’s it. REVOLUTION returns to NBC in late March, and the creators promise that it will pick up exactly where it left off… with that hovering helicopter!

If it weren’t for the Led Zeppelin music and the lack of an Enterprise, you would think this week’s REVOLUTION was an episode of STAR TREK.

In fact, the episode was structurally just like an episode of Trek (any of the five series). Allow me to illustrate.

An away team explores a series of underground tunnels with some new friends they just met. A main character nearly kills herself with a booby trap. She barely escapes before the trap explodes collapsing the tunnel entrance. The tunnel no longer has any fresh air, and the team is losing air and suffering from hypoxia-induced hallucinations. They’re all going to die unless they find a way out. Of course, they do, but the leader of the new friends turns out to be an undercover spy and takes out two of the red shirts and wounds a main character before getting shot himself.

That’s solidly a very cliche STAR TREK plot. Again, pick any Trek series, and it still applies. Now, here’s what happened in the episode of REVOLUTION:

Yep. It’s STAR TREK without the transporters, electricity or Klingons.

Yeah, they are in Philly now, and next week will prove to be a dramatic turning point as it is the fall finale, but can we talk about Led Zeppelin for a minute?

NBC promoted the heck out of this episode as they had made a deal to cross-promote Led Zeppelin’s new album during the show. The ep was titled “Kashmir,” and we heard two remastered tracks from the CD. But honestly, we only got about a minute and a half of Zeppelin through the entire episode. Once was when Rachel was using the pendant to power a boombox while working on a power amplifier (or bomb depending on who you ask). The other time was when Miles was hallucinating a short encounter with Gen. Monroe.

That’s it? Really? I’m pretty sure I heard more of the album in the promos leading up to the show than in the actual show itself. NBC certainly has whored itself out for several product placements in the past (the best are in 30 ROCK), but this just seems like a new low. It’s about as low as the time when CHUCK’s main characters got into a Toyota Yaris and started spouting off the car’s features like they were reading the window sticker.

I really have nothing more to add to this recap other than to summarize the episode in four words: “They’re in Philly now.” You’re all caught up! The rest of the episode was just filler… like the inside of a Twinkie.

Mmmm… Twinkies. Okay, we’ll see you here next week for the fall finale. I have to go over to eBay and buy a box of Twinkies for $50.

Why Rent It?

The buzz on Skyfall has been high, so let’s take a look at the film that led us to the best Bond ever.

The Breakdown:

Casino Royale was Daniel Craig’s first film in the title role of Bond.

Craig quickly proved that he was the best Bond.  Ever.  

As with every good Bond film, Casino Royale featured a great Bond theme.

Final Analysis: 

Casino Royale showed the world a new Bond, and the world loved it.

As the 21st film in the series, Casino Royale marked the rebirth of Bond, telling the story of how he gained 007 status.

With Daniel Craig in the lead, the Bond franchise was reborn and has led to best Bond films in the history of the franchise.

NBC’s REVOLUTION has always been about family, but this week, it’s Nora’s family that gets the band of Mathesons in hot water.

On the neverending trip to Philadelphia, Miles and the crew come upon a river they have to cross in order to rescue Danny. They’re only 290 miles away, and all that stops them from rescuing him is a bridge (and a bazillion militia).

They clan try to bribe their way across the bridge, but Miles quickly recognizes it as a trap and orders everyone to RUN AWAY!!!! I don’t remember if I saw arms flailing, but they might as well have been. Also, we learn that the militia shoots like Stormtroopers. Everybody survives, but Miles knows that the evil Sergeant Strausser is on their tails. You know he’s bad because he’s got a vaguely German name and a goatee.

In hiding, the militia calls out Nora’s name, and they discover her sister being held captive by Strausser. He wants the (indestructible) pendant and Miles Matheson. Mia and Nora’s mother was murdered after the blackout, and they never found their dad. Nora said she would always take care of her sister, and it looks like she’s gonna do it again. Yep, the gang blows up stuff and manages to rescue Mia.

Back in Philly, Monroe orders Nate/Jason to be beaten for bribing a stablehand. Neville sees this and calls for an end to it. Monroe says Nate can either be executed or sent on a one-way diplomatic mission to California. You know, California is a rough place. They keep sending militia members back in boxes. That’s what happens when their old governor was a Terminator.

Mia tries to convince Nora to leave the group and head back to Texas. She says their father is alive, and Nora refuses until Charlie convinces her to go. It’s all well and good until Mia turns over the pendant and Miles’ location to Strausser. Oh, yeah… the double cross we all knew was coming. Nora gets back to the group, but the pendant is on its way back to Philly. But Mia is sent packing.

Neville is upset about Nate leaving, but his wife has something up her sleeve. It turns out that Monroe’s colonel has a son in the rebellion. Neville tells Monroe this and manages to get his son out of the mission. Julia further tells Neville that Monroe is coming unhinged and should be replaced by a better leader. Neville makes her talk to the hand.

When Strausser delivers the pendant, he gives it to Rachel, who is building some sort of device. Let’s assume it’s a weapon. She continues her work.

Now, in a completely different place, Grace and Randall are working on computers (!) in a powered (!!) facility and note that Ben Matheson’s pendant is in Philly thanks to a huge computerized tracking system (!!!!!!!!!). Randall says that Grace has to do something about it, and the camera pulls out to reveal what can best be described as the laser weapon on the Death Star.

So, what’s next for our intrepid gang? Will they get Danny, or are they powerless to rescue anyone in the Monroe Republic stronghold?

The biggest take away from this first look at the film is that these zombies are f*ing fast. Like really really fast. That and they operated more like a colony of ants than the walkers seen on AMC’s The Walking Dead.

There’s little doubt this film is going to get a lot of eyeballs when it hits theaters next summer (June 21st).
