Cher Lloyd Brings Want You Back to U.S.May 23rd, 2012 | Posted by in In The Know | Music | Top Posts
Who is Cher Lloyd and why should you know about her?
Well, for beginners, she’s a barely legal U.K. pop artist who found her way to fame finishing fourth in the 7th season of The X-Factor.
But that didn’t stop Simon Cowell from signing her to Sony sub-record Syco Music. Shortly after Lloyd released “Swagger Jagger” to mixed reviews and followed that up with “With Ur Love” featuring Mike Posner…and from then on, it’s been all down hill (in a good way).
Keeping it all in the family, Lloyd was signed to Cowell’s U.S. X-Factor judge L.A. Reid’s Epic Records, and will be released in the U.S. later this year.
But now we have the U.S. version of her single “Want You Back” which is currently up on youtube and on the radio (available on iTunes):
The video actually pales in comparison to her U.K. video featuring U.S. X-Factor favorite Astro:
The thing that sticks out most about Llyod is her ‘cheeky’ (did I use that right?) way of manipulating the lyrics into a smooth rhythms, as if she’s dancing around the lyrics on her tip-toes. She sings the types of songs teenagers are begging to hear which means you’ll be listening to her all summer long, whether you like it or not.
But when you listen to “Want You Back” one thing becomes very clear, there is a lot of producing going on.
Check out her audition for the X-Factor here and tell me that doesn’t sound like a completely different person?
Maybe because it is?
The story you won’t hear about Cher Lloyd on the radio is that she was forced to live in a secondhand caravan at the age of four months-old, grew up wearing hand me down clothing from her travelling aunt, and was harassed at school as a ‘pikey‘.
So like her music or not, Cher Llyod is truly one of a kind…a genuine rags to riches story captured on a U.K. reality singing competition. Now, all she has to do is hide behind the sweet sound of autotune.
