The prison – seen in last season’s closer – looms large in the new season with, it looks like from these photos, our survivors fighting their way in seeking refuge from the zombie inmates who look oh-so-adorable in their prison blue jumpsuits.

And on a personal note, finally I can die happy (preferably from natural causes and not from a zombie apocalypse) after witnessing this new image of a sweaty and machete-wielding Maggie ready to decapitate a prison zombie.

Showrunner Glen Mazzaras says:

“What’s important to us is the prison itself is now a character in the show. It’s a haunted house, it’s scary, it’s frightening, and there are parts of the prison that are always terrifying, that are always inaccessible to our group. It’s not necessarily the blessing that the prison in the comic book turned out to be.”

Yeah, yeah, we get it, Glen, but the killer thing about the new season is we finally witness the return of Merle sporting what looks like a meat tenderizer where his right hand used to be, which may just come in, ahem, handy.

FIRST LOOK: Naomi Watts as Princess Di (PHOTOS)

Naomi Watts is a dead ringer lookalike for Princess Diana and we have the First Look photos from the upcoming movie, Diana, to prove it.

Watts plays the late princess in the last two years of her life and pulls back the veil on her relationship with heart surgeon Dr. Hasnat Khan (Lost’s Naveen Andrews) who some royal watchers claim was the true love of her life.

Directed by Oliver Hirschbiegel (Downfall) with a screenplay by Stephen Jeffreys (The Libertine), Watts portrayal has Oscar bait written all over it with the Australian actress saying, “It is such an honor to be able to play this iconic role.”

I’m going to go out on a limb here and say it might be more of an honor for Watts if she was to win an Academy award for portraying an English royal like Judi Dench, Helen Mirren, Katherine Hepburn and Colin Firth before her.

What do you think, does Watts pull off the Princess Diana look?

PREVIEW REVIEW: Martin Scorsese presents ‘Easy Money’ starring Joel Kinnaman (VIDEO)

July 12th, 2012 | Posted by Narrad Retsof in Movies | Preview Review - (0 Comments)

Go see the Martin Scorsese endorsed euro action flick Easy Money before they remake the shit out of it with Zac Effron because then you won’t give a shit.

Starring soon-to-be RoboCop Joel Kinnaman of AMC’s The Killing and directed by Safe House helmer Daniel Espinosa, the story has Kinnaman as a student of modest means trying to dazzle a rich heiress and gets embroiled in some drug dealing, some bad dudes, and develops a fondness for the lavish lifestyle that comes with.

Here’s the fun part; the film came out in Europe 2010 to rave reviews but never crossed the pond to U.S. theaters.

However, since Espinosa’s Safe House with Denzel, Ryan Reynolds and Kinnaman himself did gangbusters at the box office with a tidy $120 million earlier this year the brothers Weinstein of The Weinstein Company said, ‘Aye, that Espinosa’s Easy Money might make us some easy money so we should acquire it’… and so they did, and had Marty Scorsese sit down and watch it and then give his seal of approval… Presto! You have a potential action flick hit on your hands.

The movie rolls out this week and looks like it’s ready to kick ass with a scrubbed-clean and sexy Joel Kinnaman swooning all over the screen. Watch the trailer and tell us what you think.

FIRST LISTEN: Britpop Fans, Blur is Back (VIDEO)

July 10th, 2012 | Posted by Narrad Retsof in First Listen | Music - (0 Comments)

Blur fans listen up; the boys are back with two new tracks that feel like a shot of Britpop to your pituitary gland.

The British rockers gave a secret rooftop performance in London recently and livestreamed the new songs – “Under The Westway” and “The Puritan” – on Twitter following up with lyric videos which we have for you here.

“Under The Westway” is a soft, piano-driven ballad that harkens back to Blur’s “Tender” days with my favorite lyric – “Paradise not lost it’s inside you” – suggestive of the preacher teacher that has always lived inside of lead singer, Damon Albarn.

“The Puritan” is a slap-in-yer-face slice of “Tracy Jacks” territory with this sidewinder of a lyric, “I’m waltzing on an amazing pulse/In a pornographic sea” which I think is Damon telling us porn is good…or waltzing is amazing… or the sea is full of porn… or… dammit, just download this song because it rocks!

The songs were written for Blur’s performance Aug. 12 at the 2012 Olympic Games finale in London and will be released on 7-inch Aug. 6.

Woody Allen’s New Movie ‘To Rome With Love’ (VIDEO)

July 5th, 2012 | Posted by Narrad Retsof in Movies - (0 Comments)

Together again for the first time since 2006, Woody Allen has cast Woody Allen in the new Woody Allen movie, To Rome With Love which follows up last year’s Midnight in Paris which gave Allen the biggest box-office success of his career and continued his late-career creative streak that began in London eight years ago with Match Point.

To Rome With Love opens nationwide Friday with Alec Baldwin, Ellen Page, Jesse Eisenberg, Greta Gerwig, Judy Davis, Roberto Benigni and Penelope Cruz co-starring with Allen in four unrelated stories about love, loss and self-deprecating wisecracks in one movie, set—yep, you guessed it—in Rome.

Here’s a quick teaser clip to get you in the mood.

Bruce Willis Bloodied on ‘Die Hard 5’ Set (VIDEO)

Bruce Willis is always at his action hero best when the bad guys bloody his head and batter his ego.

That’s when he gets all ‘Yippee ki-ya, motherf**ker’ on their ass.

So this sneak peak video from the Hungarian set of A Good Day to Die Hard aka Die Hard 5 is giving us the warm and fuzzies that Willis’ John McClane will be kicking some more Eurotrash ass when he hits U.S. theaters February 14, 2013 in a plot that has McClane rescuing his son from a Moscow jail.

Check out scenes of a bloody Bruce, some explosions, and firefighters wearing what looks like either paper towels on their head or part of an Imperial Stormtrooper helmet.

Is ‘Beasts of the Southern Wild’ the Best American Movie in Years? (VIDEO)

July 5th, 2012 | Posted by Narrad Retsof in Featured Movies | Movies - (0 Comments)

You may never have had a love affair with a movie before, but you’re about to, and Beasts of the Southern Wild is its name.

Beasts is a magical slice of the squalor of southern Louisiana poverty; helplessness in the hardship of a broken home; and soaring hope evinced in the fierce life of six-year-old Hushpuppy (a devastatingly good Quvenzhane Wallis) as she searches for her mother in a world crumbling at the edges and visited by giant prehistoric boars.

It’s hard to find one’s moorings in this movie—and that’s a good thing—from first-time director, Benh Zeitlin, with its sumptuous Terrence Malick-like cinematography and a force of nature performance from Ms. Wallis as Hushpuppy.

You get swept up inside Hushpuppy’s head, and then get swept away by Mr. Zeitlin’s lyrical imagery. It leaves you queasy with torment, yet compassionate to a world that you probably will never experience. You cheer for the spirit and resilience of this little girl because she’s you. She’s all of us. She’s the universal spirit that will never surrender.

The narrative, such as there is, is set in the bayous and backwaters of Louisiana as we follow Hushpuppy’s fight to survive in her tiny shantytown known as the Bathtub with an ill father and a Katrina-like storm approaching.

Shot with locals with little or no acting experience, Beast arrives in theaters with a high-wire reputation after wowing at Sundance to win the grand jury prize and scooping the Camera d’Or for best first film at Cannes and leaving critics breathless with praise for this small film with big heart.

That’s why I fell in love with Beasts of the Southern Wild… its big heart.

You will, too.

Preview Review: Liam Neeson Kicks Ass in ‘Taken 2’ International Trailer (VIDEO)

WAIT TILL IT'S OUT OF THEATERS

I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again: Liam Neeson is one seriously badass and beautiful 60-year-old and you do not want to f**k with him because he will mess you up.

The evidence? Check out the international trailer for Taken 2—the sequel to Neeson’s 2008 mega-hit action thriller Taken—and you tell me if you’d tangle with this sexagenarian Irishman.

I don’t think so.

And with Neeson on a blockbuster starring roll this year with The Grey, Battleship and soon-to-be-released The Dark Knight Rises he might just be the biggest, baddest, box office winner of 2012.

Not bad for an old guy.

Taken 2 hits theaters October 5th.

Official Synopsis: Liam Neeson returns as Bryan Mills, the retired CIA agent with a particular set of skills who stopped at nothing to save his daughter Kim from Albanian kidnappers. When the father of one of the kidnappers swears revenge and takes Bryan and his wife hostage during their family vacation in Istanbul, Bryan enlists Kim to help them escape, and uses the same advanced level of special forces tactics to get his family to safety and systematically take out the kidnappers one by one.

WATCH: Bill Murray’s Hilarious Induction into Minor League Baseball Hall of Fame (VIDEO)

June 28th, 2012 | Posted by Narrad Retsof in In The Know | Movies - (0 Comments)

bill murray

I would induct Bill Murray into just about any Hall of Fame: Comedy (natch)…Rock & Roll…National Midget Auto Racing (yes it exists!)…Pro Football…Ukulele…Polka (really, guys?)…Astronaut…Burlesque (what now?!)… you name it, I’m nominating Bill.

Why? Because he’s Bill Murray, dammit! And everything is better with Bill Murray in it than not.

But did you know that Murray was just inducted into the South Atlantic League Hall of Fame? (That’s minor league baseball, kiddos.)

Why? Because he loves baseball. Because he has invested in several minor league baseball teams and is currently co-owner of the Charleston RiverDogs. Because he deserves it.

So watch this SB Nation video of Bill’s heartfelt and hilarious induction speech where a clearly smitten and humbled Bill reveals “No one’s ever asked me to be in a Hall of Fame before.”

Which begs the question: Why not? He’s Bill Murray, dammit!

P.S. Keep the Kleenex close by at 10:26 as we find out why baseball is the great American metaphor for life.

Also, check out Murray rounding the bases during a rain delay and acting like a five-year-old thus earning his other official title at the Charleston RiverDogs “Director of Fun.”
