Willy Moon…who?? That Song From The New IPod Commercial

October 15th, 2012 | Posted by Jay Leff in Music - (0 Comments)

Album art for Willy Moon's Single, Yeah YeahForget dancing silhouettes the new ipod commercial has a shuffle dancing around! But wait, what is that song it’s moving to? Before your shazam could even load the commercial is over, and the beat fades away. Fear not world, we have you covered!

For those with quick eyes (or quicker phones than me) you may have noticed the art work on that grooving shuffle was for new artist Willy Moon. Willy only recently broke into the music scene. Releasing songs in the past two years that didn’t get much attention, Willy can expect to see some more action from his recent spot on this ipod commercial. And he has the music to back it up.

With a unique loungey style voice, reminiscent of an artist in a 1920′s speakeasy, Willy marries his old style with modern hip hop beats beautifully. Recnetly described as “a brilliantly odd fusion of 50s rock’n'roll and modern hip-hop production techniques”, I would say Willy Moon has the potential to set a new musical trend.

Although the song with the ipod commercial doesn’t make me want to guy buy a shuffle, it sure makes me wish there we had more artists like this.

Nothing to report in terms of a full length album just yet, but I bet we can expect an announcement soon.

Until then, enjoy the old meets new fusion of Willy Moon.

LOST: Mysteries Of The Universe: The Dharma Initiative

mysteries of the universe

LOST sure was a wild ride, and even though the show’s producers wrapped up a lot of the major questions we spent the better part of six years trying to figure out, there were still a few that went unexplained.

Mysteries of the Universe exploited that. Purportedly a short-lived 1982 series that aired on ABC, the series ran under the creative control of the LOST team in 2009 as a promotional tool for LOST‘s final season.

Now I can’t promise that the following will answer all of your questions, but you might learn a little more about The Dharma Initiative.

Mysteries Of The Universe: Episode 1

Mysteries Of The Universe: Episode 2

Mysteries Of The Universe: Episode 3

Some of us, present company included, take LOST way too seriously, but we have to admit, sometimes the plot lines were a little ridiculous, so here are a few humorous bits to remind us of just that.

LOST: Missing Pieces

lost missing pieces

There was a sad sad time during the LOST series called the “Writers Strike” where we were without LOST for some time. People cried, yelled, even threw out their TV’s. I mean why watch TV if there is no LOST. We needed to know why the statue at four toes, why did they take MY BOY.. WWAAAALLLTTT, and what did the rest of “You All Everybody” sound like!!

Enter Verizon, who teamed up with the producers of LOST and released a series of mobisodes called the Missing Pieces. Unfortunately none of these videos answer those questions, but they do fill in some minor gaps, and provide us with some clever insights into the characters.

Can you piece together the “Missing Pieces” with their correct season?

Missing Piece 1: The Watch

Missing Piece 2: The Adventures Of Hurley and Frogurt

Missing Piece 3: King Of The Castle

Missing Piece 4: The Deal

Missing Piece 5: Operation Sleeper

Missing Piece 6: Room 23

LOST: Seasons 1-6 Recaps In 108 Words

May 17th, 2012 | Posted by Jay Leff in Featured TV | Television - (7 Comments)

One of the first and greatest mysteries of LOST is “the numbers”. 4, 8, 15, 16, 23 and 42. For LOST fans, it’s the equivalent of the Our Father for Catholics. It’s burned in your head and you can recite them on hand.

So to kick-off our 7 Days of LOST we’ve decided to pay tribute to those numbers, and all the mysteries of LOST by bringing you back to the series we all love so much, with a recap of each season, each 108 words, the sum of “the numbers”.

Season 1:
Plane crashes on an island. A man is saving passengers. This is Jack. He likes to fix things. The island is mysterious, makes weird noises, and a monster ate the pilot. The survivors consist of fugitive, a con artist, a Korean couple with marriage issues, a son and his estranged father, a rock star, a pregnant girl, a rich brother and sister, a fat lottery winner, and Iraqi war vet, and an ex paraplegic. They all have issues. John and Boone find a hatch. Michael builds a raft. Boone dies. Claire’s baby is kidnapped. Charlie almost dies. There’s a crazy French woman on the island. Walt is kidnapped.

Season 2:

FIRST LISTEN: Miss May I – At Heart

MIss May I - At Heart album cover

Album art work for Miss May I's new album "At Heart" In stores June 12th, 2012

Miss May I is set to release their third studio album titled “At Heart” this June. Everyone rejoice! Miss May I has been very consistent for being a fairly new band. “Apologies Are For The Weak” is turning into one of those classic albums for me. It was a really solid first release. Although I wasn’t sold on “Monument” when it was first released, the re-release / deluxe version really got me back on board. The new tracks on “Monument’s” deluxe version and the over all re-mixing really rounded that album out.

From the sounds of the new song I think we are going to get the same honest brutality and love for music from “Apologies Are For The Weak” while having the more structured refined sound of “Monument”. Miss May I will always have this specific style, they never change to much from record to record, but always deliver solid new songs that remind you why you love them.

Miss May I’s new album “At Heart” hits stores on June 12, 2012. For now enjoy the track “Hey Mister”.

First Listen: Memphis May Fire – Challenger

Memphis May Fire - Challenger Album art work

Art Work for Memphis May Fire's new album "Challenger", available on June 26, 2012

Dallas based southern rock / metal-core band Memphis May Fire, is set to release their new album “Challenger” on June 26th, 2012. “Challenger” is the third studio full length from the band, and it is going to take a tall glass of water (or maybe five pounds of brisket) to follow up both “Sleepwalking” and “The Hollow”. In my eyes, Memphis May Fire is one of the most talented bands in today’s underground hardcore scene. So many new bands jumped on the breakdown bandwagon over the past few years, that the genre became flooded with bands that were not here for the long haul, but Memphis May Fire has the talent and balance to exceed all of this, as they continue to grow with each album.

With “Sleepwalking” delivering catchy hooks and southern riffs, and “The Hollow” delivering a more brutal attitude without compromising the integrity of a catchy chorus, we can only expect the most brutal southern metal-core album out of “Challenger.

Take a listen to a clip from the new album, and watch these guys have some fun in the studio.

Memphis May Fire’s “Challenger” will hit shelves on June 26, 2012.

Kimbra Lays The Smack Down With Mark Foster and A-Trak in “Warrior”

April 15th, 2012 | Posted by Jay Leff in Featured Music | Music - (0 Comments)
Kimbra, A-Track, and Mark Foster are Warrirors

Kimbra, A-Track, and Mark Foster in the music video for Warrior

Watching this video for the first time got me super psyched. An awesome collaboration between A-Track, Mark Foster (of Foster The People), and Kimbra…..and… Converse? Hmm, what a twist ending for such a good video, just throw up a Converse logo. Of course we had to watch the video again, and then I understood. Going into the video for “Warrior” blind you would have no idea that it is a promo for Converse, and I love them for that. Rather than shooting a blatant promo featuring the sneakers, they shot a music video with the sneakers as the “supporting” cast.

This is how you market in the age of the internet. We have some of the hottest new and upcoming artists putting together a fun song and video which is helping all parties. Converse gets to feature their shoes, and throw up their logo, and Kimbra, A-Track, and Mark Foster get even more exposure for their upcoming tours and releases. Everyone is happy and successful. Props to converse for letting these artists do what they do best and making a great song.

Enjoy the video for “Warriors”, and some more background and how A-Trak and Mark Foster teamed up with Kimbra below.

TRENDING: Hoodie Allen – No Interruptions

Hoodie Allen - No Interruption

Trending white rapper? Yup, it’s back in a good way. Although Hoodie Allen lays down verses seamlessly in his trending single No Interruption, I wouldn’t put his music the rap category. Lets call this one Hip Pop. Catchy beats, clever lyrics, sweet verses, and a good hook? I’ll give it more credit than Eminem-ish white boy rapping. Check it out. Listen, love it, share it. Add it to your guilty pleasure list.

Stunning Scenes With Video Artist “Sunday / Paper”

April 10th, 2012 | Posted by Jay Leff in In The Know | Movies - (0 Comments)

Light from Sunday Paper on Vimeo.

Sunday / Paper is a collaboration between Los Angeles based director/visual artist Cole Schreiber and director David Parker, and literally what beautiful work they do together. They describe their goal as wanting to…

create evocative, beautifully crafted images, showcasing stories that are thoughtful and compelling in any and all mediums.

Just watch a few of their shorts at sunday-paper.com and I you will see that they certainly accomplish this goal.

To the right you can see their short “Lights” which was intended to hit upon issues of energy conservation in the world today. But filming this lead them down a rabbit hole about the human condition.

“Light” a short film directed by David Parker, initially began as a project intended to bring awareness to energy waste. Bleeding, crying lights were meant to metaphorically parallel the way in which we invisibly squander our natural resources without much thought. While the original sentiment remains, the film also grew into a poetic statement about a world run amok and the human tendency to exploit that which we hold dear.

The care, thought, and passion behind this, is just something that you don’t run across much today in the entertainment industry. To see this type of intent behind a short film like this is refreshing.

What really gets me going is the power behind the individual shots of all of Sunday / Paper’s videos. Stunning is the best way to put it. The shots speak for themselves and to each other as the pieces seamlessly bleed into the whole. It is difficult enough to tell a story or send a message through video and film. It is much more difficult to do this in a short amount of time and with no dialogue. And for that I greatly respect what Cole and David do.

I look forward to seeing more from Sunday / Paper in the near future. Until then watch their latest titled “Rest”, which shows us how everlasting love can really be.

Rest from Sunday Paper on Vimeo.
