Ashton Kutcher’s Racist Popchips Ad
May 3rd, 2012 | Posted by in TelevisionOh karma, it’s such a bitch.
After a career known more for who he’s slept with than his acting, Ashton Kutcher is finding himself in the middle of a controversy surrounding a highly offensive ‘dating’ ad for Popchips.
And sadly enough, the most offensive part of the ad isn’t his acting.
In the ad, which can be seen below, Kutcher assumes several personas, from hippie/spiritual/OWS protester, to hick biker, to gay European, to Raj, a 37 year old Indian. And yes, Kutcher appears in what we will call ‘Brown Face’.
Kutcher’s horrible Indian accent and performance is degrading enough but I’m not sure who I’m more upset with. Kutcher for “playing the role” or the good people at Popchips who thought the ads were funny?
And by the way, they’re not.
Popchips have been been doing their best to control the damage as the ads are appearing, disappearing, and reappearing online but you’d think after Mary J. Blige’s racist Burger King ad these celebrities would think twice before looking for a quick, ill-advised buck.
So what do you think, is the ad racist?
